Preface
Prostate cancer is still regarded as a delicate subject, one that seems to be relegated to the sidelines when compared to breast cancer. Nevertheless, it is the second most frequent form of lethal cancer among male patients. In fact, every sixth fatality related to cancer is due to prostate cancer. This form of tumor disease presents a problem in healthcare policy, as a result both of demographic trends and of the sharply growing importance of increasing life expectancy. The segment of the male population that falls within the risk group will increase by 40% over the next 15 years.

If we want to confront the problem that will arise in healthcare policy, we must address numerous questions. In this era with limited public resources the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation will try to help find a solution for these upcoming issues with the help of private-sector involvement.

The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation was established on November 26, 2002, in Aarau. We are independent by law and subject to supervision by the department of internal affairs in Berne.
